Wexford plan gets OK from Providence review panel

PROVIDENCE, R.I. —The Wexford Science & Technology innovation complex and hotel planned to be built on former highway land took another step forward Monday when the city’s Downtown Design Review Committee recommended approval of conceptual designs and of four waivers from city zoning regulations.

The 4-0 vote sends the project to the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission with a recommendation that it grant final approval, said Christopher J. Ise, principal planner with the city’s Department of Planning and Development, who provides staff support to the design committee.

The city and 195 Commission, which does not have a design-review staff, agreed in August 2015 that the city committee would review projects and make recommendations but the land panel retains final say.
